Mandate

The Nunavut Development Corporation will work in partnership with its community-based businesses and agents to create and maintain economic opportunities for Nunavumiut in accordance with the Nunavut Development Corporation Act.

Corporate Vision

The Nunavut Development Corporation is committed to working in partnership with communities to develop, maintain and stimulate local economices through the responsible development of unique Nunavut market sectors. The Nunavut Development Corporation, through financial support by way of subsidy funding, capital and venture investment works to develop these markets by establishing a local presence in communities. Ultimately, the goal of the Nunavut Development Corporation is to develop self-sustaining locally controlled enterprises, built upon these unique products.

Mission

The areas where the Nunavut Development Corporation is responsible for achieving acceptable results are:

• creating a new and refreshing image of the corporation;

• maximizing employment opportunities;

• enhancing communication with community-based partners, the public and central agencies;

• building board capacity at the community level to facilitate greater local autonomy;

• facilitating channels of market demand with local supply;

• divesting viable subsidiaries to communities, local ownership;

• providing training, advice, support and financial assistance to local subsidiary companies;

• working towards flexible and innovative approaches to developing local economies;

• focusing on the development of economic opportunities in non-decentralized communities
